Updates from Gen Con 2026

As the gaming companies at Gen Con make their big announcements, there are now two announcements regarding Star Wars roleplaying games. The first one, from Thursday, 7/30, game from Wizards of the Coast. This link is from ENWorld.

The immediate implication seems to be that this will be a one-and-done book, which presents guidelines for using the current Dungeons & Dragons rules to play Star Wars adventures. A few thoughts come right to mind.

  • How much of the Star Wars lore will they try to include? That is, of course, way too much for a book that also presents RPG mechanics.
  • What will be their mechanic for characters who use the Force? Will this look like spells for D&D, or will it be something different?
  • It should be pretty easy, too, to convert material from the D20 incarnations of the Star Wars RPG.

The second one is a response from Fantasy Flight Games. Again the link is from ENWorld.

What they don't address in this is if and when they'll be producing new material. At this point it is more than five and a half years since the FFG message boards closed, and some thirteen years since that RPG premiered. It seems like they'd be due for a new edition of the game.

Only time will tell.
